Nollywood comedy sensation John Okafor aka ‘Mr. Ibu’ has reportedly arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone, this evening to feature in an upcoming movie titled ‘Ibu in Sierra Leone’, we can authoritatively reveal.
The film is produced by London based Sierra Leonean actor and producer of ‘Perfect Plan’, Collins Archie-Pearce, while the screenplay is written by John Solo, who is also the director.
The film is said to feature renowned Sierra Leonean actor Desmond Finney and others including Salami Carew and Alunette Pohnette Kamara. Collins Archie-Pearce also features as well.
A Sierra Leonean actress based in The Gambia- Fatmata Jabbie- who recently won Africa’s Best Supporting actress in the award winning movie ‘Mirror Boy’, is also in town to feature in the movie. So also is ‘Weeping Child’ star, Efuana Igwe, who arrived a couple of days earlier than Mr. Ibu.
Mr. Ibu and Efuana are expected to spend two weeks in Freetown to see the film through.
According to Archie-Pearce, his dream is for Sierra Leone to begin to produce quality movies that will compete internationally.
“We also want to create a common ground on which Sierra Leoneans and Nigerians will work together to promote their respective film industries,” said Archie-Pearce.
Mr. Ibu (John Okafor) was named among the top 10 wealthiest Nigerian actors in Nollywood last February by Answers Africa. Answers Africa described him as undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s most talented comic characters.
“He is best known for his humorous acting which is often characterised by stupidity, hilarious imbecility and a sharp disconnection from reality. His attitude has created a huge demand for his movies. He is one of the top 10 richest Nigerian actors of our time,” it says.
