''Half Of A Yellow Sun' Up Nollywood's Film Standard (TRAILER) Tags: Movies News Nollywood Trailers Movies Reviews Half Of A Yellow Sun'

Nigerian movies are fuelled by low budgets and mostly a 10 day production schedule but this has not stopped the growth of the industry.

The movie, Half of a Yellow Sun is a one of a kind Nigerian film cost a lot for production. It can be seen as a tool to set the precedent for the future of the country’s flick industry. According to business magazine, Ventures Africa, Nollywood knocks out 2,000 titles a year and is the third-largest earner within the movie world, after Bollywood and Hollywood. Half of a Yellow Sun had a budget of about eight million dollars, which is the largest in Nollywood history.

“I am hoping that Half of a Yellow Sun will set a model for what is possible with the desires of Nigerian film makers to make bigger budgets, larger production skills, and larger value productions,”Yewande Sadiku Executive producer of Half of a Yellow Sun told CNBC Africa.

“There is still a lot of formal structure that needs to be developed to allow the industry to reach its full potential. Distribution is very much still fledging, there are about 15 cinemas across Nigeria that serve 170 million people.”

TRAILER:

The Nigerian movie market requires diversity, the movie industry has to in a way meet up to the demands of this population.

“Nigeria is a large country of about 170 million people with diverse tastes, disposable income, dreams and aspirations. So the bulk of the films made in Nigeria are actually made to meet the demands of the population.”

Even with the sometimes low quality and low budget movies the Nigerian people still watch and enjoy these movies and even demand for more films to be produced.

“The Nigerian consumers will watch the movies anyway. But it is also clear that Nigeria and Nigerian producers also demand a different kind of movie and we have seen improving standards and production value even in ‘Nigerian only’ productions. So there have been a lot of improvements in the sector.”

Osita Iheme, says People who think I am a child are not in their senses Tags: News Celebrity Osita Iheme Entertainment Nollywood Nigeria

For Osita Iheme, size is nothing but just an image and has furiously reacted to continuous comments being made that he isn’t a grown up. The Nollywood actor popularly called Porpo frowned at people who see him as a small boy. In granting a recent interview, Osita bemoaned the how people viewed him:

“If you are a child in a drama, in real life you are not a child. You don’t need to behave like a child. Yes, a lot of people mistake me for a child in real life, but that is their problem. I am not a child. I don’t think I look like a child. I don’t allow that to bother me because I am not seeing it.

People can see me and take me as a child, but that person is not with his senses because from the way I dress, the way I look, I don’t think I am looking like a child. People can meet me at first and have a spontaneous reaction of seeing a child but when they sit down and look very well, they would understand that I am not a child.”

Truly, will a child invest in real estate as Osita has done? Will a child have series of girls admiring him? A child will not do that, only Porpo can!

It can be frustrating for him considering he wants to be seen as a grown up person yet people still see him as a child. But it’s not the blame of fans who think so as that will be the natural and spontaneous reaction anyone will have seeing him at first instance. What do you think?

Nollywood comedy sensation John Okafor aka ‘Mr. Ibu’ has reportedly arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone, this evening to feature in an upcoming movie titled ‘Ibu in Sierra Leone’, we can authoritatively reveal.

The film is produced by London based Sierra Leonean actor and producer of  ‘Perfect Plan’, Collins Archie-Pearce, while the screenplay is written by John Solo, who is also the director.
The film is said to feature renowned Sierra Leonean actor Desmond Finney and others including Salami Carew and Alunette Pohnette Kamara. Collins Archie-Pearce also features as well.

A Sierra Leonean actress based in The Gambia- Fatmata Jabbie- who recently won Africa’s Best Supporting actress in the award winning movie ‘Mirror Boy’, is also in town to feature in the movie. So also is ‘Weeping Child’ star, Efuana Igwe, who arrived a couple of days earlier than Mr. Ibu.

Mr. Ibu and Efuana are expected to spend two weeks in Freetown to see the film through.

According to Archie-Pearce, his dream is for Sierra Leone to begin to produce quality movies that will compete internationally.
“We also want to create a common ground on which Sierra Leoneans and Nigerians will work together to promote their respective film industries,” said Archie-Pearce.

Mr. Ibu (John Okafor) was named among the top 10 wealthiest Nigerian actors in Nollywood last February by Answers Africa. Answers Africa described him as undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s most talented comic characters.

“He is best known for his humorous acting which is often characterised by stupidity, hilarious imbecility and a sharp disconnection from reality. His attitude has created a huge demand for his movies. He is one of the top 10 richest Nigerian actors of our time,” it says.
