Genevieve Nnaji Starring in The Mirror Boy - Gala World Premiere Tags: Genevieve Nnaji the mirror boy Movies Review Famous Africans Osita Iheme FATIMA JABBE EDWARD KAGUTUZI OBI EMELONYE

On Thursday 24th February, the world famous Empire Leicester Square, home to many glitzy movie premieres will play host to a truly unique occasion that is set to become known as the biggest premiere of an African film held in the UK. This international gala occasion is the much anticipated world premier of The Mirror Boy, the latest, and many say one of the very best, in a long line of movies that have been flowing out of the Nigerian film industry for the past few decades.

Written, produced & directed by Obi Emelonye, an award winning UK based Nigerian filmmaker and starring Genevieve Nnaji and Osita Iheme - the biggest screen talents Africa has to offer - The Mirror Boy is soon set to captivate global audiences & become the blockbuster that fans of Nigerian cinema have been waiting for.

It was in 2010 that the world finally became aware of the enormous growth in the fledgling Nigerian film industry, now popularly known as ‘Nollywood’, as it surpassed Hollywood to become the world’s 2nd biggest movie producer. Nollywood already holds the position of being the No. 1 cinema art form across Nigeria, Africa and the global African Diaspora, with many millions of eager fans worldwide.

The Mirror Boy is a universal family adventure film that tells the uplifting story of a young teenage African British boy taken back to the land of his mother’s birth, but then gets mysteriously lost in a foreboding forest and embarks on a magical journey that teaches him about himself and the mystery of the father he has never seen.

Shot in the truly beautiful terrain of the Republic of The Gambia and boasting high quality production values, despite its low (by international standards) budget, The Mirror Boy is said by many in the international movie business to be the Nollywood movie that can finally match it’s industry’s new found status,

The Mirror Boy’s much anticipated success is hoped will elevate and redefine Nollywood and turn international curiosity into a bold statement of cinematic identity, creating a landscape where new Nollywood will ‘crossover’ and become more widely recognised within mainstream channels.

The Mirror Boy was produced by The Nollywood Factory in association with Akin Salami and Patrick Campbell of OH Films, the film arm of OH TV (SKY199), the UK’s fastest growing channel for African Caribbean audiences.

Genevieve Nnaji And Osita Iheme In The Mirror Boy Tags: Genevieve Nnaji Osita Iheme The Mirror Boy Movies Review Nollywood Movies Review Edward Kagutuzi

“The Mirror Boy” is an enthralling journey through the picturesque terrains of The Gambia, as seen through the eyes of a London-born 12 year old boy, TIJANI.

On the 13th of June and wholly out of character, TIJANI gets involved in a street fight in which a boy is hurt. Convinced that TIJANI needs discipline, TEEMA, his mum decides to take him to the Gambia to live with her sister.

On their arrival in Banjul, TIJANI encounters what he considers to be a simple apparition- a boy smiling at him in a mirror and vanishing afterwards.

However, seeing the same boy in a crowded street market the next day sets in motion a chain of events that culminates in him getting lost.

CAST In The Movie 'The Mirror Boy'
In a perfect piece of casting our central character’s mother s played by Genevieve’ Nnaji. Genevieve’s debut was in popular Television soap Opera Ripples at the age of 8 and since then has appeared in  ... Edward Kagutuzi plays our central character, 11 year old Gambian boy Tijan. The fact that Edward convinces us that he really is a 11 yr old boy is a testament to Edwards skill as an actor as he is in fact 19yrs old, drives a fancy ... Playing The Mirror Boy title roll and mobbed on a daily basis during the shoot in The Gambia, Osita Iheme is truly a mega star of the people all over Africa. He has made over 80 films, including Aki na Ukwa, Mr Ibu, Back from America ...

While the panic-stricken TEEMA struggles with the Police Force to find her son in an intriguing game of survival brinkmanship, TIJANI is left alone in the company of the enigmatic MIRROR BOY who is only visible to him.

As a bruising spiritual rite of passage, the MIRROR BOY takes TIJANI on a
magical journey through the dark belly of the forest.

After a series of edge-of-the-seat adventures in

the forest, TIJANI emerges the next day, a bewildered boy; for whom the lines between reality and fantasy; between the physical and the spiritual have been forever blurred.

His arrival at a time of mourning for a small kingdom upsets the evil machinations of a desperate Queen who; threatened by his innocent presence; is not afraid wield her mysterious powers.

A cathartic climax helps TIJANI to unravel the mystery of the MIRROR BOY. It also provides him with a rather mystical explanation for the way his life has cascaded from the 13th of June towards this inter-twined fate with a father he has never met.
