A spokesman for President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Friday denied the allegations by soccer star George Weah.

 

Sirleaf’s secretary Cyrus Badio says the allegations are “reckless and unsubstantiated.”

 

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is a Harvard-trained economist who became Africa’s first democratically elected female president in 2005.

Weah is running for vice president alongside Winston Tubman, who is among Sirleaf’s 15 challengers.

 

Liberia was ravaged by civil wars for years until 2003. The country is still struggling to maintain a fragile peace with the help of U.N. peacekeepers.

Obama, the uncle that the president mentions in his memoir “Dreams from My Father,” was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield the right of way around 20 miles outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Police say that rolling through a stop sign almost caused a cop cruiser to nearly slam into Obama’s car, and after administering roadside sobriety tests, authorities determined the man to be under the influence of alcohol. At the station he blew a .14 blood-alcohol level and said he’d phone up his nephew to arrange for bail.

 

Since being put behind bars, federal immigration officials are now investigating whether or not Onyango Obama is a proper citizen of the United States. The Associated Press reports that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement office has issued detainer on Obama, who had received a deportation or removal order in years past. Now he is being held without bail while immigration officials investigate.

 

A spokesperson for the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles says that they have records of a valid driver’s license and Social Security number for Obama, and have since 1992, but the man’s attorney tells the AP that he “wouldn’t know how” Onyango obtained a Social Security card. Margaret Wong, the same attorney that represented the president’s aunt Zeituni Onyango last year, is representing the president’s uncle.

 

Obama was pulled over outside the Chicken Bone saloon, only around a mile from his single-family home.

 

The White House has not issued a statement on the arrest yet.

The traditional marriage which started hours after the scheduled time of 11am moved into full swing as veteran MC and entertainer, Madam Kofo ushered in the royal family of Okojie led by the king and father of the groom, Chief Okojie.

 

After the rite of paying homage to the family, letters were exchanged and  dowry paid. The newly wedded couple cut the cake and danced to the delight of many.

 

The bride who was all smiles expressed her happiness thus,‘I am very happy for this day. It is a leap of faith for me and I believe God will be with me. I thank all those that stood by me, my family, friends and team. Today shows that love has triumphed’ .

 

Madam Kofo was the MC for the traditional event while comedian AY, is the MC  for the white wedding. Tricia Esiegbe, Muma Gee, Femi Ogedengbe, Solo Amaco and others represented the Nollywood constituency.

 

Meanwhile, from Nollywood, the music industry and politics, eminent personalities turned out en masse to honour star actress, Mercy Ozioma Johnson as she walked down the aisle yesterday.   Genevieve Nnaji, Emeka Ike, Jim Iyke, Segun Arinze, Kenneth Okonkwo, Patience Ozokwo, Chinedu Ikedieze, Majid Mitchel, Francis Duru, speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Mike Ezuruonye and many others turned out for the wedding, and many left describing the event as the biggest in Nollywood.

 

 The wedding ceremony started at Christ Embassy headquarters, Oregun Road, Lagos, with Pastor Tom as officiating minister. The wedding train then moved to 10 Degrees, venue of the reception after presentation of the wedding certificate. The man of God, who presented the certificate on behalf of Pastor Chris Oyakilome, admonished the couple to allow love to reign supreme.

 

 AY, the comedian, ushered in the couple at the reception. After a brief prayer from a family member, the party went into full swing. DJ Jimmy Jatt was behind the wheel of steel, while Godbless Band and Navy Band provided live music.  

 

 The star-studded bridal train included Waje, Empress Njamah, Chika Ike, Queen Nwokoye, and Goldie, while Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, was the chief bridesmaid.

The clergyman, who reiterated that Nigerian actors need total deliverance against the scourge, said that the actors are being attacked by their counterparts in Ghana and South Africa.

 

“Nigerian actors have been outshining these people for many years and they (the foreigners) are desperate to take over. So Nollywood actors need total deliverance against all forces that may be coming from outside or within. The deaths are beyond ordinary,” Ndu stated.

 

In a chat with NollywoodReel, the man of God stressed that “in Hollywood and other movie sectors of the world, actors hardly die predominantly unlike it is in Nigeria and that calls for serious concern.”

 

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, had earlier told members of the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood and entertainers at large, that for them to be fulfilled in their chosen career, they need something supernatural.

 

Pastor Adeboye, made this statement on Sunday, 5 June, 2011, during a special prayer service organised for practitioners of the Nigerian entertainment industry at the Throne of Grace, Ebute-Meta, Lagos, headquarters of the church.

 

The programme was organised in a bid to pray against sudden deaths and negative occurrences that seem to have engulfed the entertainment industry, Nollywood in particular, for some years now.

 

Some of the movie personalities that attended the programme include Mike Bamiloye of Mount Zion Ministry and his wife, National President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, Segun Arinze, Prince Jide Kosoko and his wife, Henrietta, Wale Adenuga, Pa James, Justus Esiri, Rachael Oniga, Hakeem Rahman, Yetunde Wunmi and Esther Idowu Philips, a.k.a. Iya Rainbow.

 

Others were Femi Ogedengbe, Kelvin Ikeduba, Ajala Jalingo, Madam Saje, Ayo Adesanya and Bimbo Oshin, to mention a few.

 

During his brief sermon and prayer session for the entertainers, Pastor Adeboye acknowledged that an average actor in Nigeria is extremely talented, but hinted that without supernatural connections, they cannot have a fulfilled career.

 

The popular clergyman explained that “success in life requires something supernatural. Talent alone is not enough,” adding that if success is being measured by hard work, labourers in Wharf should be the most successful.

 

“Entertainers in Nigeria are hard working and talented, but there is something missing. David would have died unknown but for divine intervention, but unfortunately, most people turn to the devil for help,” Adeboye said.

 

He therefore urged Nigerian entertainers to move closer to God, stressing that He is the only one who can crown their efforts and protect them from terrible occurrences. Adeboye added that a lot of entertainers have even died unknown with their talents simply because they could not connect with the supernatural power that can make their aspirations come true.

 

While citing King David in the Bible as an example, he said “David was a talented singer, but for years, he was only singing for the sheep. But when the king was in trouble, he needed a good singer to pacify him and that was how someone recommended David. He later became the king despite rumblings from other people. That is the supernatural connection I am talking about.”

 

So far, this year alone, notable thespians like Alasari, Ashley Nwosu and Yemisi Eleto have died, the latest addition being Sam Loco Efe

This is the first time I am coming out to clear air on the on-going issues that are affecting my marriage to Mercy Johnson. A lot of people have said a lot of things about me, these are things I have not said myself, they formed their own opinion but I can tell you that, this is nothing but the truth of the whole saga. It’s really hurting but I have to come to clear the air because of my fiancée Mercy, she means a lot to me and she has gone through a lot since these scandals broke out. I love her so much, that’s the reason I’m taking pain to do this right now. The lady in question, her real name is Adaeze, we met in Italy a long time ago, then I was living in Italy. We had a relation, no doubt, she got pregnant and I told her then that I wasn’t ready. In the course of our affair, she had two kids for me but we moved on together. We were never married legally; we only had a traditional marriage. In fact, the traditional marriage was done by my parents, I was not even there, It was my parents that insisted that I had to go ahead with such a plan because I’m from a royal family in Esan. It was to have the full fatherhood responsibility on my kids. This was done soothe kids could bear my family name, Okojie. My parents were there to do it on my behalf.

 

WHAT ABOUT THE PICTURE THAT WAS EVERYWHERE, YOU WERE SIGNING THE CERTIFICATE OF MARRIAGE

 

What we were signing was the certificate of birth where we had the first baby, I had to go and recognize the baby, the call it ‘commone’ in Italy, it s a kind o community welfare where both parent go and regularize the status of the baby, there was nothing like marriage in Italy, the picture was in a community house, it was pre-arrangement to regularize the status and also for me to have my resident papers which we were already processing and it didn’t come out so because of that I left everything and I relocated to Nigeria in 2007.

 

BUT SHE CLAIMED THAT SHE HAD THE SECOND BABY IN 2008, HOW DID THAT COME ABOUT?

 

It’s true that she had another baby in 2008, after then I used to go back to Italy once in a while to see my baby along the line she told me she was pregnant and later moved down to Canada, throwing all her Italian papers away to seek asylum in Canada, it was in Canada she had the second baby, I have accepted the baby anyway.

 

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING APART?

 

We lived together last in 2007, then I came to Nigeria while she moved to Canada.

 

YOUR FIANCÉ MERCY MUST BE SO TROUBLED AND DISPIRITED, HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DATING HER?

 

I’ve been with Mercy since 2007/2008, Mercy is really hurt right now but we have to be strong and be there for each other.

 

SINCE THE TIME YOU MET MERCY, DID YOU, ALONG THE LINE, TELL HER YOU ALREADY HAVE A FAMILY SOMEWHERE?

 

How do you mean family, it was not a family, it was an affair that we had that produced children and, Mercy knows I have two kids with her, because the first time she stepped into my house she saw the picture of my daughter, and I told her about them. Although, when I left Italy, there were stories that she was seeing somebody else but I don’t want to go into all that for now.

 

WHAT DO YOU THINK MIGHT HAVE CAUSE HER (LOVELYN)’S VITUPERATIONS JUST DAYS TO YOUR WEDDING?

 

I really don’t know, many people blackmail for different reasons, I think she is just blackmailing me to separate me and Mercy, but it won’t work because what God has joined together, no man can put asunder. Everyday new story breaks, Mercy and I are getting stronger by the day.

 

REPORTS SUGGEST THAT THE CHURCH HAS ALSO BEING SKEPTICAL ABOUT JOINING THE TWO OF YOU TOGETHER…

 

Please I don’t want to talk about the church, Mercy and I are still together, and that’s what matters to me right now, our love still waxes strong as ever before.

 

HAS LOVELY OR ADAEZE AS YOU CALL HER ASKED YOU FOR ANYTHING?

 

I have been giving her money, but I don’t want to go into all that, but I have been giving her a lot of money, I have been to Canada to see them a couple of times to know how they are fairing. Each time I go to Canada for my Oil and Gas business, I go to see them. I can remember a particular occasion that I used Mercy as my screen saver, my daughter walked up to me one morning and asked daddy is this your wife, I said yes, the mother now said let me see, she said Mercy Johnson! that is what you are doing, she asked if she is my wife, and I said yes and she said Ok.

 

SO WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING; YOU DID MENTION OIL AND GAS?

 

Well I like to keep a private life, I’m a businessman, I’m into importation of cars and I do oil and gas business.

I’m really bitter right now, she has caused me so much pains, but I will not allow her wicked nature affect my relationship with the children, moreover, Mercy is a loving person and a wonderful person, ‘she wont even mind taking care of the kids if she allows me to take custody of them, Mercy is kind enough to take good care of them.

 

WHAT ABOUT THE LATEST GIST THAT YOU TWO ARE NOW PLANNING TO WED SECRETLY?

 

I don’t know where you guys are getting information from, I did all these to clear the air because of Mercy, I’m doing this to protect her and her profession. As you all know, the marriage has been fixed for the 27th of August, and that is a couple of days from today, so we hope the marriage still goes on but we are praying. We will communicate to you as event unfolds because Lovelyn is presently taking a legal action against me in the court of law.

 

WHAT LEGAL ACTION?

 

I wonder too what legal action she would be taking against me. My father paid her dowry and the dissolution of the marriage is already in process.
