Samuel Eto'o: Everton Set To Sign Former Chelsea Striker
Category: African Sports
Tags: Samuel Eto'o Sports Football Cameroon

Everton are close to agreeing a two-year deal for striker Samuel Eto'o after he was released by Chelsea at the end of last season.

Liverpool had been interested in the 33-year-old Cameroon international.

But the completion of their £16m move for Mario Balotelli left the way clear for Everton to hold talks with Eto'o.

Talks are ongoing but Everton could sign Eto'o in time for him to be in line for a debut against his old side at Goodison on Saturday.

Everton have already signed Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea for £28m this summer and taken Christian Atsu on loan from the west London outfit.

Samuel Eto'o considering MLS (US) move, if his Twitter account is to be believed

At 33 years old, veteran striker Samuel Eto'o can still play at an elite level after scoring nine goals for Chelsea last season and captaining Cameroon once again at the 2014 World Cup.

With his one-year contract at Chelsea expired, Eto'o is deciding where to play next, and on Wednesday he used his Twitter feed to reveal some possible destinations.

Player after player will be linked to Major League Soccer this time of year, especially following a World Cup, so perhaps the posts are just a ploy to drive up his pricetag for whatever the final destination may be.

Eto'o played most of his career in Spain with Real Madrid, Mallorca and Barcelona (where he was a teammate of New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry) before moving to Inter Milan in 2009 and playing two seasons with Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala from 2011-13.

Having played in three of the world's top leagues already, Eto'o may have yet another in mind:

Or maybe those are just potential off-season vacation destinations for his family. Only time will tell.

Fiorentina to rival Juventus for Chelsea reject Samuel Eto'o

SAMUEL ETO'O is in demand with not only Everton, Arsenal, Juventus and Roma after the Chelsea striker, but now Fiorentina as well.

The Cameroon international will be a free agent soon and it was thought Roma would be in the running for his signature, however Eto'o wants a two-year deal and wants to be paid £60,000-a-week.

Eto'o fell out with Jose Mourinho  after he mocked the Portuguese tactician by doing an "old man and a walking stick" celebration when he scored at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners have been identifying striking options to ease the burden off Olivier Giroud while Everton are bracing themselves for Romelu Lukaku's departure.

And now it seems La Viola are ready to offer their hand for Eto'o.

Reports on the continent indicate Fiorentina have already held talks with Eto'o's representatives over a possible move.

However, they are only prepared to offer him a one-year deal.

Whether Eto'o remains in the Premier League or heads back to Italy, he will still feel he has a lot to offer.
