<div>
	“Brilliant Cancer specialist Dr. Michael Durant is emotionally troubled, wrestling with the traumatic loss of his 10 year old daughter from Cancer. Immersing himself in his work in the hospital, away from his wife who blames him for their child’s death, he forms an unlikely bond with a sick, loving, but rambunctious seven year old boy Sam, the son of a rich Jewish couple who are major contributors to the Hospital’s Cancer Research Fund.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Unfortunately, Sam’s health deteriorates drastically, and soon, he slips into a coma, with only a few days to live. Dr. Durant becomes desperate, willing to risk anything to save the child’s life. A surreptitious Nigerian Nurse convinces him to seek the help of Dr. Bello, an uncertified Nigerian Doctor, known in the Brooklyn-African underground as a miracle worker. Dr. Bello, an introvert with a controversial past, secretly visits the child at night and administers a strange African potion, replete with incantations and by the next morning, miraculously, the child begins to recover, the Cancer speeding into remission.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	The Hospital Medical Board immediately orders an investigation and soon the secret is revealed and Dr. Durant is suspended. Dr. Bello is arrested and charged with medical malpractice. <p>
	U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the panel would "advise on the post-2015 way forward" to build on progress made towards the Millennium Development Goals. The goals were targets adopted by world leaders at the United Nations in 2000 to slash poverty, hunger and disease in poor countries by 2015.</p>
<div>
	"We need a clear direction for enhancing the global institutional architecture to address sustainable development challenges," Ban told the U.N. General Assembly. "We have begun to organize for the post-2015 challenge and opportunity."</div>

	Ban said he would announce the complete high-level panel to be led by Cameron, Johnson-Sirleaf and Yudhoyono after the Rio+20 summit in Brazil next month.</div>

	The Rio+20 summit will try to hammer out sustainable development goals across seven core themes including food security, water and energy but is not expected to produce mandatory targets.</div>

	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		However, counteracting forces came into play when a local pastor called upon to pray for divine intervention commanded the duo to separate, to the bewilderment of the amorous man the adulterous wife.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		According to news reaching AjabuAfrica.com, and a youtube video widely circulated on the internet, the cheating “couple” got “stuck” in the highly embarrasing situation with the man completely unable to get off the woman.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		 The graphic video displaying minute by minute progression of the drama has gained over 135,000 hits after only 3 days since posting.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		Reports indicate that the husband to the woman had suspected for long that his wife was cheating on him.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		  Feeling betrayed, he is reported to have visited a witch-doctor who applied black magic on the wife, causing the unfortunate man to get stuck inside her during the act. </div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		 After several hours and repeated efforts to separate failed, the “couple” decided to call for help using a cell phone.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		Police responded to the distress calls but for hours, they could not rescue <img alt="" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7093/7191555550_a1859b7ddf.jpg" style="float: right; width: 150px; height: 125px; " />the pair from the “black magic”.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		A big crowd of curious residents, some perched on nearby rooftops and stone fences, swelled outside to witness the drama, as police ran out of options on how to help the two.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		Many jostled for position to take a glimpse of the unfolding drama, with some snapping pictures and live video footage with their cell phones and hand and other held camcorders.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		Others tried to openly entice policemen with money in order to be allowed to jump ahead of the line for a better chance to take a glimpse of the unfortunate situation.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		 “Young man, what is going on? Just say what your problem is so you can be helped,” a policeman, speaking in local dialect (Kiswahili) told a bewildered looking, naked man  lying prone on top of the half naked woman who covered her face with a piece of cloth.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		Dumbfounded friends pleaded with the woman’s husband to agree to have the pair now facing embarrassment of untold magnitude separated. </div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		Eventually he agreed to have them   separated on condition the cheating man paid him Kenya shillings 20,000 as compensation for damages and embarrassment suffered.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		However, audio from a widely circulated video indicated the husband said eh would not want the cheating woman back.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		The cheating man had little choice but to agree to the deal.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		To seal the deal a pastor was summoned to pray for the divine intervention.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		“We rebuke the spirit of devil!. I now call the mighty God......, who hates the power of death, to call upon your name now ....,” loudly declared the clergyman who burst into the tiny room filled with a  number of  police officers and curious onlookers. </div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		 He then proceeded to ask the couple if they believed in the name of God.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		 “Munaamini mungu?” (Do you believe in God?). </div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		 After the man said yes and nodded further in agreement, the pastor then commanded him to get off the woman.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		“Siutoe hiyo kitu. Toka!” (Pull that thing out. Out!), the pastor commanded.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		A short while later, the man succeeded to separate himself from the woman who was now sobbing uncontrollably.</div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		For a moment, the mesmerized man stared at the people in the room in disbelief, before he was able to move and gather his clothes. </div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		 “Anaangalia namna gani huyu? Huamini,” (Why is this man staring like this. You don’t believe it?), a policeman was heard asking the man. </div>
	<div>
		 </div>
	<div>
		 Once free, the bewildered looking man gathered courage, dressed up and was escorted rushed to a nearby ATM while the woman remained sobbing in the bed, too ashamed to make any move before the curious crowds could be successfully dispersed.</div>

<p>
	<strong>A British sexagenarian was violently attacked by two cheetahs in a zoological park in front of her husband, who immortalized the scene taking pictures. Violet D'Mello, a Columbia 60 years, had gone to the Kragga Kamma reserve in South Africa with her husband. It was introduced into the enclosure of cheetahs (open to the public) to fondle felines. But the meeting was not very well.</strong></p>
<div>
	The cheetah has tried to approach it was immediately turned on her. A second cheetah intervened and the sixties began a hard struggle against the two cats.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	But the most incredible attitude is likely to remain the husband of Violet, Archie (64). It did not intervene to try to rescue his wife. The man stayed away while taking pictures of the assault.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Park staff are meanwhile taken place. Faced with the growing aggressiveness of the animals, they asked Violet to pretend to be dead. Another employee has launched their fresh meat at the same time. A trick that worked because the cheetahs eventually release the poor woman bloodied and traumatized by the trip. "It was a nightmare," she said without specifying what she thought of the attitude of her husband.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	<div>
		The cheetah enclosure was closed until further notice. For the manager of the reserve, it is unlikely that cheetahs have wished to devour Violet. "They just wanted to play," he said. A game that does not have much fun the sixties.</div>

The collaboration with his close friend, who was initially signed to Konvict Muzuk back in 2009 before now Bad Boy, was strategically designed to broaden French's reach in the U.S. and internationally, all while kick-starting the promotion for Akon's fourth LP. </strong></p>

<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	In addition to representing the struggle within our economic times, Akon explained that boxing-themed "Hurt Somebody" also examines "how we deal with confrontation" and supports non-gun violence as a realistic alternative to more lethal outcomes. "When you have to deal with rage, I would rather you duke it out than shoot it out," Akon urged, hammering home that taking a life can't heal like a swollen black eye. </div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"Hurt Somebody" is intentionally cinematic. In October, a month after the release of "Stadium" (Sept 2012), Akon will begin working on a film titled, "One More Day," with the video's director, Gil Green. "Everything's in line, the funding's there, we're in the last stages of casting… it's pretty much ready to go," Akon assured The Juice. Like in "Hurt Somebody,"  Akon will be playing the role of an underdog young boxer from the streets. Currently having conversations to secure a major motion picture release for "One More Day," Akon is considering having the film go straight to DVD to market and promote the re-package of "Stadium" in the future. </div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	While he may not have been as present domestically in the last year, Akon admitted to focusing his efforts outside the U.S. in order to penetrate markets in India and Latin America. He's been enjoying the influx of creativity that comes with traveling overseas, all the while recording. </div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"Angel," the first single off "Stadium," was initially released through Konvict/Universal back in 2010, but when the music industry endured some rather severe restructuring, Akon pulled the plug. "The labels were all crashing and switching up staff," Akon told The Juice. "There was a lot going on within the industry itself and a lot of changes were being made, so within that process, I kind of decided I wanted to push back until [they] got everything together." </div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Akon's four year hiatus gave him the opportunity to dialog with his fans. Now fully engaged, Akon plans to deliver the street records that both him and his fans love, starting with his upcoming mixtape, "Koncrete Jungle," set for "later this month [May]." </div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Although having his fans' wants in mind, Akon is no longer interested in making huge crossover records but instead wants to experiment and "have fun." Earlier this year, he spent time in Jamaica's Tuff Gong studios with Damian, Stephen and Julian Marley, enhancing his sonic repertoire and making "magic" in the same studio that  Bob Marley once recorded in.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"It was such an honor to be in that environment and be inspired by it," Akon said. "They had me writing three to four songs a day because I was so amped!" And of the studio itself, Akon seemed astonished: "Nothing's really changed, they kept it exactly how it was." </div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Aside from the reggae influenced, Stephen Marley featured cut, "Just A Man," on "Stadium," Akon plans to release an all-reggae, full-length opus after finishing "Stadium." "I always said to myself, 'When I get to that position when I can do an all-reggae album, I would love to do it,' and those guys are the best to do it with," Akon said, while hinting on collaborating with the Marley brothers for the album. </div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Rejuvenated from his travels and secure in a calmer label climate, "new staff, new systems, new energy;" Akon is finally ready to give his fourth album a go. After appearing on "American Idol" and VH1's "Behind The Music," it would appear Akon is setting the stage well for "Stadium," an album that he describes as "a piece of everything... this big, huge event looking to gather people from all over the world."</div>

A video showing the artist <a href="http://affiliate.kickapps.com/service/searchEverything.kickAction?keywords=Arafat&includeVideo=on&includeAudio=on&as=12247&sortType=recent" target="_blank">DJ Arafat</a> assenant assault and uttering threats against his girlfriend's wonderful fodder for the canvas. The power and speed of the net have given this matter to a date two years which, according to Arafat. </strong></p>
<div>
	If many people were shocked by the gesture of DJ Pierre aka Houon Wompy father and coach of the artist was still more. And it took right away to apologize to the public through a post. "I'm not happy with Didier (DJ Arafat), even though these images date from two years ago. Alexia, his ex-girlfriend and him are my children. However, I will not accept that door to hand my child, as I do not cautionnerai anyone to touch the daughter of another. </div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Didier got carried away in this video that I had never seen before and I do not support his action. I apologize to Alexia, her parents and all those who have had trouble seeing this film, even if it's an old story. Didier should be able to overcome all his impulses of youth, "he confesses.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	But the height in the matter is that the photo used by Internet users and some newspapers still left confused. Because the girl would not face swollen Alexia Vodji. "This is a photomontage," thundered the managerial staff of Arafat. Leading them to conclude that through the shock of the video, people in the shadows simply want to break the ascending career of their foals. Alexia, the former girlfriend of Arafat who now lives in Canada called on parents to Yorobo to express his dissatisfaction with the image of the injured girl ascribed to him.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"Alexia is angry. His family also is frustrated because they have associated his name (Vodji) to an image on newspapers is not that of their daughter, "says Peter Houon, staff coordinator of Arafat.</div>
<div>
	But who could have done this photomontage that is making waves today? To this question, is added another, namely how the video made in a purely private was able to find on the net? Arafat denies being the author. </div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	And that's why he apologized to Alexia, her parents and all those that have these images shocked. His friends who were present the day of his misbehavior refute also have posted. The suspicions of the staff go out to one of Alexia's friends, who had also filmed with his mobile phone scene.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Anyway, the video has had its effect. Feminist organizations have claims against the artist for violence against a woman, even if the facts back to 2010. The camp also took Arafat a lawyer to take action.</div>

<p>
	This recommendation was made in a sentencing submission made to Trial Chamber judges yesterday. On April 26, three-judge panel found Taylor guilty of aiding and abetting 11 counts of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and other serious violations on international humanitarian law committed in different parts of Sierra Leone during the conflict in that West African country. Judges further found that Taylor was guilty of planning attacks in three specific crime bases, including the diamond rich town of Kono and the country’s capital Freetown between late 1998 and early 1999.</p>
<div>
	<strong>Taylor's defence: 80-yr jailing request "vindictive"</strong></div>
<blockquote>
	<div>
		<div>
			<span style="background-color:#d3d3d3;">Lawyers for Charles Taylor, the former Liberian president convicted of crimes against humanity, described the 80-year jail term demanded by prosecutors as "vindictive" on Friday, May, 11 2012.</span></div>
		<div>
			 </div>
		<div>
			<span style="background-color:#d3d3d3;">Taylor's lawyers sent in their own filing to the judges on Friday, saying the prosecution had failed to prove Taylor had direct criminal involvement in the crimes.</span></div>
		<div>
			 </div>
		<div>
			<span style="background-color:#d3d3d3;">"The prosecution vindictively argues that Mr. Taylor be given a ... sentence of 80 years on the basis that ... he 'planned the bloodiest chapter in the Sierra Leonean war'," the defence team wrote.</span></div>
		<div>
			 </div>
		<div>
			<span style="background-color:#d3d3d3;">"It would be manifestly unfair to impose a sentence, which effectively puts all moral blame for all the atrocities committed in Sierra Leone solely on Mr. Taylor's shoulders, as the Prosecution suggests," the lawyers added.</span></div>
	</div>
</blockquote>
<div>
	In their sentencing submission, prosecutors noted that “[j]ustice requires that Mr. Taylor’s sentence should reflect the extraordinary suffering caused by Mr. Taylor’s knowing, willing and long enduring participation in the crimes committed inSierra Leone and recognize the critical role he played in a criminal campaign of atrocities which lasted years.”</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Prosecutors have therefore recommended that Mr. Taylor be made to serve jail term according the gravity of the various counts on which he has been convicted. Below are specifics of the jail terms as recommended by the prosecution:</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Count 1, Acts of Terrorism: 80 years</div>
<div>
	Count 2, Murder: 75 years</div>
<div>
	Count 3, Violence to life, etc, including murder:75 years</div>
<div>
	Count 4, Rape: 75 years</div>
<div>
	Count 5, Sexual Slavery: 75 years</div>
<div>
	Count 6, Outrages Upon personal Dignity: 75 years</div>
<div>
	Count 7, Cruel Treatment: 75 years</div>
<div>
	Count 8, Other Inhumane acts: 75 years</div>
<div>
	Count 9, Child soldiers: 75 years</div>
<div>
	Count 10, Enslavement: 75 years</div>
<div>
	Count 11, Pillage: 40 years</div>
<div>
	Mr. Taylor’s defense team will have another seven days to respond to the prosecution’s submission. The parties will make oral submissions on their sentencing briefs on May 16 and the judges will deliver their verdict on Mr. Taylor’s sentence on May 30, 2012.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Either or both the defense and prosecution will be entitled to appeal the Trial Chambers verdict before the Appeals Chamber of the Special Court for Sierra Leone.</div>

This anniversary will be celebrated worldwide by all who loved his music and listened to his message committed to African unity and brotherly love between men. The press has also dubbed the Pope of reggae, the music he has contributed significantly to shine in the world, yet continues to be revered. Everywhere. His contemporaries, such as those who were born after him, like the musical dimension of man and his work more than a dozen albums.</strong></p>
<div>
	Reggae music could, however, summarize Bob Marley, even if it is, by its commitment, its rhythm, its appeal was most appropriate to deliver the message. Rather a message of love, brotherhood and unity. Especially for mother earth, earth-promise (Africa), considered among Rastas in Zion. Also, Bob Marley, the result of interbreeding between an English and a descendant of Jamaican slaves, he had, he and his friends, firmly identified the fight to restore the lost dignity of the black man, robbed and uprooted by slavery, colonialism, neocolonialism, imperialism.</div>

<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Never mind that many words are most used or passed mode.Dans of the world, after the world wars and the hopes raised by decolonization, which was part of the ineluctable march of history, was given to a bipolar world between East and West blocks.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	And the black man does not always found there. The first African leaders, boastfully called founding fathers, bowed to the logic of the interests of foreign powers. Officers entangled in "mental slavery". The illusion of liberation was all the greater for the people, but many of these leaders were taking instructions from former colonists. So what about the black diaspora? </div>
<div>
	His situation was not better off, although it has striven, by historical figures such as Dubois, Marcus Garvey and others to break the chains of slavery. In this sense, she led the fight, despite confinement to some "ghettoization" and impoverishment. She took the lead on Africa that most leaders were entangled in "mental slavery".</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	This is where the Rastas, relayed by "freedom fighters", perfect reggae musicians have chosen to fight to expose, fight the "system". A system that does that put on profitability and not vomiting exploitation or enslavement of the next. Garvey's prophecy of 1927, telling his brothers to turn to Africa for the issue, followed by Rastas who saw in Haile Selassie crowned king of Ethiopia in 1930, as the savior and even better, as the representative of God on earth. Far from this ideology, the message of Bob Marley, outstanding musician who has sold over 200 million albums, calling for peace and above all, visionary, to African unity. More than three decades after his death, it is clear that Africa seems to have missed the train of history.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Sudan, Southern Sudan ... to illustrate, now, alas, in the news world in the worst way. Obama, another mestizo, President of the United States, is only the visible face of the iceberg. His social ascent does not reflect a better humanization reports. The reign of the "Illuminati", the "ruthless rulers whose primary purpose is to preserve their power over the population," that is even more essential. And what about the other micro-African States who find themselves trapped in democracy, good governance agenda and enacted by the West? If it is imperative that meet the recommendations of the masters of the world and bend to their agenda.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Ah! This Africa whose leaders believe, from the outset to meet the West rather than work for the salvation of their people! This Africa whose leaders are quick, once defeated at the ballot box, take refuge in the West! This Africa whose political thinking rather than used to use, and some elite, literate, do not think in any way be accountable to the people. Marley implored Africa with all his heart, he called and wanted his unit, in the conviction that we can not survive otherwise.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	On the anniversary of his disappearance, he would have liked to know that the situation a positive development.</div>

<div>
	The two British heavyweights were involved in a brawl during the news conference following Chisora's defeat by Vitali Klitschko in Munich and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) will not sanction the fight because neither holds a British licence.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	However Warren, who is Chisora's manager, said at a lively news conference at the ground that the fight would go ahead there in just over two months time.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Even though the two camps were separated by a steel fence, the two men still exchanged insults and Haye vowed to beat him when they meet.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"He is the ideal opponent for me," Haye said.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"I am so glad he has got a good chin because if he didn't have a good chin he would be blasted out in the first round. This means I will give him a nice, slow, concussive beating.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"I tried to knock him out in Munich and this is the opportunity to shut him up."</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Chisora, flanked by eight burly security guards, angrily retorted: "I don't like him. David, you need to get style. Your corn rows are out of fashion. Talk is cheap now. That was a lucky shot he hit me with in Munich.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"David, you are winning 1-0 but come July I am coming to whoop your ass. Your talk is cheap. You always talk but you don't deliver in the ring."</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	The two men then exchanged more insults revealing they had seen each other in London recently.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Chisora said: "I saw David Haye a couple of weeks and he pulled a knife.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Haye replied: "I was eating a steak. It was in a restaurant."</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	The fight has been sanctioned by the Luxembourg authorities after the BBBC withdrew Chisora's licence following his behaviour in Munich.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Haye does not have a British licence after he handed it in when he announced his retirement following his last fight in 2011 - his defeat to Wladimir Klitschko.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Warren said he was not undermining the BBBC by going to Luxembourg for the fight's licence.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"This is not the end of British boxing," Warren said.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"I believe it will be a sellout, a huge event. There are far, far worse things happening in sport than what's happening here.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"No charges have been made against Haye or Dereck for what happened in Munich.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"He is not banned from boxing. The fight has been licensed by the governing body in Luxembourg, which has the same standards as the British Boxing Board of Control."</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	BBBC General secretary Robert Smith said the board would meet on Wednesday to discuss their options but he was unhapopy another board had sanctioned the fight.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	"We're obviously not happy about it as it's not what we feel should happen. Another country has come into our jurisdiction and overruled us."</div>

The former Vitoria Setubal of Portugal striker was said to have died after a brief illness. A statement from the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Kwara State, Tunji Moronfoye, said he would be buried on Saturday (today) in Ira, Offa, Kwara State.</strong></p>
<div>
	The Supervising Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdulahi, said in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Julius Ogunro, that Yekini’s name would live forever in the memory of Nigerians.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	“The honourable minister is saddened by the death of Yekini. He was the greatest in Nigeria’s football history and although he has gone to rest, he will live forever in our memory. We commiserate with his family and pray that God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement said.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Yekini had a successful international career with the Eagles between 1984 and 1998, scoring a record 37 goals in 58 appearances. The highlight of his days in the Eagles was when he scored Nigeria’s first World Cup goal in the 3-0 demolition of Bulgaria at the 1994 World Cup in the US. He also played in the 1998 World Cup in France.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	He began his journey to football fame in 1982 when he joined Shooting Stars of Ibadan. He left the club two years later, joining Abiola Babes of Abeokuta. In 1987, he joined the Nigerian football legion playing outside the country when he moved to Africa Sports of Abidjan, Ivory Coast. His best club achievement was at Setubal in Portugal, where he scored 90 goals in 108 appearances between 1990 and 1994.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	He moved to Olympiacos of Greece soon after the World Cup in 1994, but his form dropped considerably as he struggled to find his scoring form. He returned to Setubal in 1997 and after spell at Zurich, Bizerte, Al-Shabab and Africa Sports, he journeyed back home and joined Julius Berger in 2002. His last club was Gateway of Abeokuta in 2005.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	His death was a climax to a wave of rumours surrounding his private life. Since ending his career as a footballer, he had withdrawn from public life, living as a recluse.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Yekini’s life outside football was in contrast to the success he achieved as a player. His celebrated marriage to Kemi, a graduate of the University of Ibadan, after the World Cup in 1994, only lasted three months and his relationship with two other women was shrouded in controversy.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	A few years ago, he was alleged to have beaten up his tenant in Ibadan over domestic issues, sending him out of the house. He lived alone in the sprawling house he built at Oni and Sons area of Ibadan. An unconfirmed report said Yekini was furious because the said tenant had tried to talk him into having a relationship with a woman. He was also alleged to have sacked his lawyer after he discovered that he increased rent on his property without his knowledge.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Last year, rumours went round that the former striker was seen burning valuable house items at his home in Ibadan; an action that sparked further rumour that he was mentally ill. He fuelled the speculation more with a new wave of generosity.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Concerned friends said Yekini withdrew millions of naira from his bank account and gave to people; some of them were people he did not know.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	When contacted in Ibadan over the issue, the former Shooting Stars striker refused to react, although his attitude towards his few friends, players of a local club he supported with money, and daily activities were normal.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	He lived a life of fixed daily routine. He trained at the Liberty Stadium (now Obafemi Awolowo Stadium) each morning and spent the afternoon at Sabo area of the ancient town, where he usually prayed at the central mosque. He would return home around 3 o’clock and drive to Olubadan Stadium around 5 pm, where he stayed with a friend simply known as Uncle Bayo.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	At the time, Uncle Bayo, who sells compact discs beside the Olubadan Stadium, spoke in defence of Yekini’s state of mind. He said Yekini was financially stable and that what he gave out to people was a fraction of his wealth. He said the former footballer had a huge deposit in a leading bank in Nigeria.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Back in those days, there was a report that Yekini rejected the Peugeot 504 given to the players by Shooting Stars patron, Chief Lekan Salami, because he felt he was too young to use a car.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Giving more insight into the life of the football legend, Bayo says Yekini’s reticence was a result of his betrayal by many people in the past and that his recent behaviours could be traced to the failures in his personal life.</div>

A month ago Nanzikambe Arts reminded theatre lovers, and all Malawians, of the dangers of an iron-fisted dictatorship creeping back at the helm of power in the country through their play And The Crocodiles are Hungry at Night. The play is an adaptation of poet Jack Mapanje’s memoir of the harsh life the poet went through for three years at Mikuyu Prison without trial.</strong></p>
<div>
	As the fire was simmering, another firebrand play was premiered at the Nanzikambe Arts space in Blantyre. The President’s Prerogative is, without doubt, one of the theatrical masters to come out of Malawi in recent times. It is a hallmark of master drama guru Smith Likongwe.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	The plot</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	The story centres around a mystical supreme ruler Apostle Joseph Njovu of Bwezani, who wants to drill oil from one of the country’s villages. The villagers, powerless as they are, resist the force, with corruption denting that battle.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	From the play, one can make out several prerogatives the president makes. The first is a prerogative to issue a decree for the villagers to vacate the land of their ancestors with no compensation; another one is to reshuffle the cabinet to include the village headman of the resistant villagers to quell opposition against the decree. The other decree is to amend the constitution so the supreme ruler can have it his way. There is more.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	These are not strange decrees in dictatorial African ‘democracies’.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	What is more, there is evidence of political powers manipulating the airwaves to suit their tastes. In the play, this is evident when a reporter from the national broadcaster (played by Vanessa Maloya) interviews the villagers on their opinion to vacate the village to give way for the drilling of oil in the village. The villagers sternly tell the reporter they can’t allow that; they chant songs against Njovu and his leadership. But when the report is aired three weeks later, the broadcaster claims the villagers are ready to go away, praising Njovu’s ‘wise and dynamic leadership’.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Not too strange a statement it has become an apologetic cliche for dictators.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Similarities to reality</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	With its tight script, the play is not devoid of lines that strike heavy cords. Take for instance what Ndaziona (Maureen Mathala), a prostitute-cum-prophetess says: ‘Dictators are there because we allow them to be there’.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	In a well meaning line, she preaches: “[the] true measure of government lies in how well it has served its people in all kinds of circumstances both favourable and adverse; in times of peace and stability and in times of national crisis”.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Several events in the play are not even far from sad home truths. Like when an executive prerogative leads to the closure of a university, forcing students like David (Yankho Seunda), a law student, to return to his home village where he joins forces with the villagers to fight the autocratic rule. The young boy has guts which he displays by showing the difference between authority and power.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	He says: “Authority is when logic is carefully applied in making decisions on behalf of stakeholders.... Power is when the authorities are intoxicated with their authority to start exercising undue force”.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Yet, the play is not just about hard facts, it also has witty and humorous scenes. For instance, when a village headman, Doko (Henry Ntalika), comes out of a bush where he was having some quality time with a prostitute. He is wearing his trousers inside out.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	The village wizard, Nganga (Geoffrey Mbene), also sends the audience into stitches of laughter, for instance, when he suggests that he should just bewitch the absolute ruler.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Other easy moments are David’s romantic escapades with the village girl Chifundo (Catherine Phiri).</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	The actors, actresses</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	The play’s strength also lies in the mixing of theatre old guards like National Theatre Association of Malawi president Ian Chitsekula who plays Senior Chief Khalani who comes face to face with Ntalika (who was a regular feature in Wakhumbata Ensemble Theatre).</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Another ace is Maloya, who has appeared for Nanzikambe in several plays, apart from her film roles in Jolly Ntaba’s The Test and Charles Simbi’s Who Cares: Wokomaatani. Thlupego Chisiza appears in the play as Khomo, the president’s special assistant.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Other upcoming but vibrant artists are Mathala, who also acted in And the Crocodiles are Hungry at Night and Thlupego’s Semo and Seunda, who featured in Dikamawoko Arts play Malawi Kwacha.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	To crown it all, the choreographic works of Joshua Bhima, Robert Magasa, John Duma and Alinafe Samuel were spectacular.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	“It is a powerful and creative work of art. One thing that I just noted is that some dialogues are just too long and could be trimmed. We need such works,” said Catherine Baluwa, who watched the premier.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	After the premier, the play was scheduled to be taken to various venues in Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Mchinji.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	In his words, Likongwe, who is a drama lecturer at the Chancellor College, said artists must never keep quiet when they see things going wrong.</div>
<div>
	 </div>
<div>
	Silence, the ancestors said, is golden. But Malawi drama today is proving one thing: silence is not always golden.</div>
