When Spectator Agoro interviewed her last June, this year, following her instant rise to stardom upon the release of the film Crime to Christ, Juliet Ibrahim was quite mouthful in telling this writer how some Casanovas always attempted to woo her with ‘sweet’ love proposals.

Then, the rumours were that the seductive-looking actress was surreptitiously dating actor Majid Michel, who, aside playing the role as Juliet’s husband in Crime to Christ, nevertheless remained the ‘real’ husband of one of Juliet’s friend.

So Juliet, in playing down the rumours, at the time, led this writer into her love-life and indicated as follows:
“But let me tell everyone that the rumours are not true. Very much so, Majid’s wife is my good friend, for which reason I cannot be his (Majid) lover or girlfriend.

“I think if there is anything that people should talk about, it should be me and other men. The fact is I get endless offers of marriage from men virtually every day, and I can tell you that it at times becomes mind-boggling.

“At times I wonder where they (men) get my contact from, but all the same I’m able to deal with them the courteous, diplomatic way.” – Spectator, June 13, 2009. Today, the pretty, light-skinned screen-goddess is troubled by the barrage of nauseating love proposals she gets from a particular man. And she is prepared to report the man to the police before tomorrow dawns “if the stalker doesn’t stop pestering my life.”

According to Juliet, who is currently one of Ghana’s notable acts making it big-time in Nigeria’s Nollywood, though she has made it clear on countless occasions to the ‘man’ that she was engaged and would soon be tying the knot, the ‘man’ appears carefree of the situation.

“This issue is becoming a constant worry for me because this man will simply not stop pestering me, at times with calls and text messages almost every minute. I’ve told him to stop harassing me or else I’ll go to the police and report him before Christmas,” she told Agoro, wearing a distraught voice.

Categorizing her suitors into three, viz friendship-seekers, bachelors and divorcees, Juliet identified the two latter groups as those she is most worried about. “Well, I’m so much okay with the friendship-seekers who always request to be just friends, at times on Facebook. But it’s the two others (bachelors and divorcees) that worry me,” she said.

She described the divorcee as “rich, older divorced men who want me to be their trophy wife” and the bachelors as “those who will give everything for me to agree to tie the knot with them.” She added that “they just don’t stand the chance because I’m seriously engaged to a Ghanaian pilot who will soon take me to the altar. So they should just leave me alone to concentrate on my career.”

On the man stalking her, Julie said “if that man doesn’t stop pestering my life, he’ll spend this Christmas with the police.” Meantime, investigations by Agoro have thrown up the identity of the ‘men’.

However, in agreeing to the wish of Juliet that the ‘man’ remains unnamed for now, hoping that he may turn a new leaf in attitude following the publication of their story, Spectator Agoro wishes that he (the man) appreciates the concerns of the young actress and leave her alone. Failure, however, may be the publication in our next issue on December 29, of his name and the unthinkable tactics he employs in ‘chasing’ women.

Sensational Ghanaian Afro-pop songstress, Rebecca Acheampong known in showbiz circles as Becca has described as malicious and unfounded recent media speculations that she is dating the internationally acclaimed football superstar, Michael Essien.

Speaking to the P&P about the media reports, a distressed Becca vehemently denied having any intimate relationship with the Chelsea and Black star midfield star. “I have never met Michael anywhere before not to talk about dating him. I only see him on TV doing what he does best. I am surprised how some people can go round making allegations they cannot substantiate. How can I go out with a man I have not met before. This is ridiculous”.

She disclosed that since the issue made the headlines, friends, family and school mates have been calling to find out if indeed he was going out with the soccer maestro. “Whilst some say they have heard I have a child with Michael, others say he has bought me a brand new Range Rover vehicle. All these are unfounded allegations. I wonder how a journalist can write something like that without any investigations. It all began a few weeks ago when a during a radio interview on Peace FMs Entertainment Review programme some anonymous person sent a text to ask if she was seeing Michael.

Though Becca denied and insisted she never knew the football star, the media somehow picked it up and blew it out of proportion. Sometime last year, there were media reports that Becca was seeing the Camerounian superstar, Samuel Etoo, which turned out to be false. Indeed Becca only featured on a documentary on the life and achievements of the footballer.

She now hopes to lift the lid on the country's ingrained acceptance of domestic violence.

"My husband will kill me," giggles Saboi Imboela nervously. "But, yes, he once beat me up so badly I reported him to the police."

The 32-year old is one of Zambia's top vocalists. Her husband is a popular actor, Owas Ray Mwape. This is the first time she has spoken publicly about the beating she received at his hands, and she wriggles uncomfortably at the memory.

	'Part of growing up'

Campaigners believe more than half of Zambian women have suffered domestic abuse but cases rarely come to light because of the stigma attached to speaking out.

Young women are taught by their elders to accept punishment from their husbands when they are disobedient. Even cooking a bad meal warrants a smack.

"That's how you grow up in Africa," explains Mr Mwape.

"To be a man, you need to discipline a woman, give her a slap or two. You know, in our culture, it's OK because that's how we feel we love our women."

It is a message driven home at boys' initiation ceremonies - chastisement is a sign of affection and a woman never achieves the status of an adult. Like a child she needs to be "trained" to behave well.

In some parts of the country tradition allows a man to beat his wife if he survives a crocodile attack.

In others, a wife's infidelity is revealed when her newborn baby coughs. She must take the consequences.

"Tradition is used as a cover for domestic violence," complains Johnson Tembo.

As chairman of the Men's Network, he tries to persuade his peers to alter their behaviour.

But he believes women's attitudes need to change too.

"Some women are foolish enough to think that if they are not beaten by their husbands, they're not loved," he says.

	Marital-rape clause

It is a problem recognised by the Zambian government's Gender in Development Division.

Director Christine Kalamwina is forthright about the challenges she faces in tackling domestic abuse.

"The majority of women enjoy a beating, because they are made to believe it is part of our tradition," she says.

She believes the answer is to create awareness that violence against women is discrimination.

"Then they can stand up and claim their rights," she says.

Those rights are being discussed with the drafting of an anti-domestic violence bill.

As it stands, the law does not recognise attacks on women as a specific crime. Cases are treated as simple assault.

But the bill, which is designed to change that, is already running into difficulties.

A clause outlawing marital rape has been dropped because of cultural considerations.

And Ms Kalamwina says it is proving hard to reach agreement on where to draw the line between courtship rituals and sexual harassment in a country where women are expected to play hard to get.

	'Partner or doormat?'

But even if the law is tightened, would it make a difference?

The risks of taking a stand against domestic violence are too great for many women. They are often blamed for provoking their husbands and ostracised for exposing them.

"Abused women tell us they don't want their relationships to break up because the husband is the bread-winner, and they won't be able to take care of their children," says Hope Kasese Kumalo, the acting national co-ordinator for Woman and Law in Southern Africa.

"There's a lot of glorification of marriage in this country," she says.

"Some women who are economically independent will not speak out against violence because they want to stay married at all costs.

Fortunately, not all cases end badly. At home in Lusaka, Ms Imboela and Mr Mwape snuggle up on the sofa together.

"He's a good husband, we've sorted out our differences," smiles Ms Imboela.

	Mr Mwape counts himself lucky.

"I was ready to go jail for what I did; I deserved it. I have stopped hitting my wife for the sake of our boys. I don't want them to become what I became," he says.

"I'm pleased Saboi has spoken about this. That's the way to go."

Is he worried about his reputation?

"No, I don't have concerns that people will think less of me now, because in Zambia, 99.9% of men have committed that crime before," he says.

Ms Imboela is now working on a song about women's rights, called Yenze Nthawi Yakayena (That Was Then).

"Men have always mistreated their wives. But times have changed, and men must too," she sings.

She says she hopes abused women will hear her song and "stand up and say: 'This is wrong'.

"And that men will look at their situation and say: 'I love my wife and I shouldn't treat her like this. She's my partner, not my doormat'," she says.

Word around town is that the movie would be the best ever produced in Ghana, once again, basking the Ghana film industry in the glory of its past.

An elaborate set was constructed for the entire production at Sapeiman in the Greater Accra Region, and the movie was shot on a $100,000 budget on the new mini 35mm camera, sponsored by Clairmont Camera in Hollywood CA.

The story is set in the ancient Ghanaian empire in the days of Mansa Musa, it tells of Soraya and Dume, two young lovers, threatened by the arrogant Prince Wenambe, who is basking in his new found throne and alliance with Mansa Musa, but is Mansa Musa really his friend or a slave raider himself in disguise, and what happened to Dume, and why did Soraya marry Prince Wenambe?

The Director was very excited about the entire production, despite the many setbacks on set. She said she loves period pieces, and thinks 'I sing of a Well' is her stress relief movie before she launches into the more rigorous work and tasks ahead of her, for the Ghana film industry.

Asked what Hollywood star she intends to spice the movie with, as is her plan, she smiled and said, "I have no Hollywood star in this, but I do have the voice of one star as a narrator." She would not tell who it is though, but rumor on the set, though, is that the narrator's voice is that of Danny Glover.

We will all know when the movie comes to be. The movie stars some of Ghana's aces - Akofa Ejeani, Kofi Middletom Mends, Prince David Osei, Stacy Amoanteng, Doris Sackitey, Luckie Lawson, Godwin Kotey and J.O.T Agyeman, as Prince Wenambe.

The movie promises to be a masterpiece. Some of the funny experiences on the set, were the arrival of many filmmakers from Nigeria and Ghana coming to see the equipment, and meet the media notorious Leila Djansi.

YES!!!!! That is what I am talking about! Finally, I am working on getting more pictures of the production. But from the few I have seen, this promises to be a masterpiece. No, not one of those hyped things that end up as flops, but a true masterpiece.

The news in town is that Mr. 2Face has parted ways with his “two most visible mistresses”; Sumbo Ajaba and Pero Adeniyi, both had two children each for him

2Face gave Sumbo Ajaba the boot on Saturday 15th august 2009, while on vacation with her. It all started when Sumbo asked 2Face if he still loves her, and she was surprised when he couldn’t answer yes or no. to her it was a sign that something was wrong, so she went ahead to query him on it. The answer she got 2Face, was shocking, she did not expect it, and Mr.2Face informed her it’s over between the two of them. But Sumbo Ajaba, who works with a second generation bank in Nigeria, is getting every thing is good fate

Pero Adeniyi is presently in the US, and one of the reasons she is said to have travelled to the US may be to reconcile with her ex-husband, whom she had a child for before she 2Face.

2Face booting out of his two mistresses seems to be based on the advice he has been receiving lately, that his sexual exploits will ruin his life and music career.

Is 2Face trying to redeem his image? By do away with the women in his life to his dwindling career.

The issue of him impregnating this and that has brought him so much trouble and bad name. And the best if he lay off women.

What is new is that after her long break , not long ago, Ini resurfaced from the blues, being among the star actresses that graced the world premiere of Emem Isong’s latest Ibibio language movie, ‘Edikan”, which held at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island.

Before then after her return to the country, she had not been spotted in any Nollywood function ,so seeing her after such a “seemingly” long time to her teaming fans was a welcomed development. As usual, she was a beauty to behold, sparkling and radiating with happiness throughout the duration of the event.

Dressed in glowing purple-colour evening outfit, Ini was the cynosure of attraction. As soon as she entered the auditorium, all eyes immediately turned to her direction. Murmured admiration was heard everywhere. Some of her admirers in the audience could not hold back their fascination, with some saying, “She has even slimed down, looking more responsible and friendly. Perhaps, she must have been tamed.”

“I am happy for her. She is looking more beautiful and elegant. I pray that her marriage works out” added another admirer.

Ini’s outfit that evening for anything portrayed her new status as a married woman. For the first time, the adorable actress shunned putting on flimsy or suggestive clothes to the admiration of the audience. To cap it all, Ini was everywhere, hugging and exchanging pleasantries with her fans, colleagues and friends alike. Some of her colleagues that graced the occasion were not left out in admiring her new status.

Cornered by the press, Ini declared, “ I am now Mrs Ini Edo- Ehiagwina . Not much is happening around me at the moment. But I hope to be working on a new project soon.”

Ini played the role of a police officer in the new movie that starred top actors and actresses like Desmond Elliot who directed the movie, Omoni Oboli, Ime Bishop, Nse Ikpe Etim, Ini Ikpe and Moses Armstrong, amongst other stars.

Coming from the stable of Royal Arts Academy, Edikan was inspired by a documentary made by Steppingstones Nigeria ‘Saving Africa’s witch children’ which was broadcast on Channel 4 UK.

The Ibibio language movie, which is subtitled in English, tells the pathetic and moving story of a teenage girl that was sexually abused by her stepfather and later branded a witch, when she dared to speak out.

Co-produced by Uduak Oguamanam, Edikan was made as an attempt to educate and inform parents on the ills of this menace of child witchcraft and sexual abuses with a view to eradicating it. Isong promised to donate a percentage of the proceeds from the sales of the movie to charity homes, adding that, the movie, hopes to prevent recurrent situations of children being labelled as witches through persuasion and education.

But it will be more fun to wait and post it when Mimi, whom I am ready to swear by my life that she is no other than "screen goddess" Genevieve Nnaji, as rightly pointed out by some of my readers who seem to have more filla than I do, posts hers. How best to make her look silly? I think she is sore, because though I preach my love for her(assuming she is Genevieve), which I do love her, I seem to be giving too much credit to her arch enemy. I give credit to many filmmakers, Shirley inclusive. But she failed me. I am very quick to turn my back on people who do not live up to expectation.

Jonathan, faithful reader. For once, maybe more than once, we share some common ground on Perfect Picture. Pray, give me your opinion and insult on the upcoming Heart of Men from the dreary and long winded Frank Rajah.

My people, Ghana film industry is really shoving Nollywood out of the door oh. Frank is more or less a Ghanaian now so let me add him to the list of Ghana film makers. Shirley, Akofa, Leila, Revele Films, Miracle Films and Venus are simply causing a stir these days. Half of the products are nothing to write home about but we have controversy. I am expecting Akofa and Leila's movie and then I will provide a commentary on the Differences and Similarities between the Ghana and Nigeria film industry. On my side though, so far, I am disappointed by both, to an extent. Tunde kelani is the only filmmaker who stands tall for me now from West Africa. I can never find a fault with him. He is the best. When I see I sing of a Well, I will either demote him or keep him there. I have been trying forever to get his number to interview him. Any help will be great.

But you wouldn't know it from film posters fighting for space with those of Ramsey Noah and Desmond Elliot.

He is even beginning to feel Nigerian. "Nowadays, I spend 75 percent of my days in Nigeria, shooting films or attending one event or other," he tells me. "My family plans to spend this Christmas at the Calabar Carnival."

Van Vicker is presently one of Nollywood's most sought-after actors. He got into Nollywood in 2006, but his screen career began on television. "My main recollection of Van Vicker was when he starred as a host on Metro TV," Samuel Kissi, a TV/radio producer in Ghana, tells me.

"He used to host a music show called the HV Show... and he did a great job with that." In 2003, Vicker appeared in a Ghanaian television series, Suncity. "One series led to another and eventually the big screen arrived sooner than I thought," he remembers.

Shortly after, he was cast as a supporting character in ‘Divine Love' - his first film appearance. He soon became one of the leading actors in Ghollywood, the Ghanaian film industry, mostly in romantic lead roles.

Entering Nollywood

It is an act he has mostly repeated in Nigeria, right from his first Nollywood film, ‘Return of Beyonce', which got him AMAA (Africa Movie Academy Awards) nominations for Best Lead Actor and Best Upcoming Actor in 2008.

It was not difficult for him to enter the Nigerian market, even as the first such crossover success. "There was no resistance or resentment at all," he says, "I was welcomed and now I'm treated like a member of the family. It still amazes me though, because we all know breaking through in Nollywood is a tough task, more so when you are not a Nigerian. It was nothing less than divine intervention with a Capital D."

He also did his homework. "I think whenever you enter into a new place, you must be humble and pay your dues before people warm up to you," he explains.

"Van is smart," says columnist Stella Dimoko-Korkus, "[Our] actors became pig-headed and producers had to look outside for someone, who would be humble and at the same time do the job: Van smartly got himself a Nigerian manager; most actors in Nigeria refuse to part with money to get managers and publicists!"

Beyond the face

Good looks that cut across race and nation must have helped, but are also a fodder for his critics. They point to fans who like him, but are also clear-eyed about his limitations. One fan says, "I like Van Vicker. For me it's a two-way thing: it's not always about his looks; sometimes he does the job. [However], most of the time he gets it wrong and it seems like he is just filling the gap."

Vicker handles the criticism with grace. "Everybody is entitled to their own opinion!" He laughs heartily. "Good looks never hurt in the entertainment industry but can only carry you so far. We all have our strengths and weaknesses but you must work hard to gain the trust of the viewing public. Talent and hard work are the only things that will make you a viable brand."

Vicker remains humble, giving "the Lord" credit for his success. "I have a passion for what I do and I enjoy doing it. I am focused on bringing out the best in me."

"Van is an extremely focused and disciplined person. He is charming and good natured and rarely loses his temper," says his manager, Mildred Okwo. "I watched him on set while his wife was in labour. He kept checking in on her in between scenes that he had been shooting for over eight hours.

"They called to say she was almost ready and he took off to be by her side until she delivered. The producer was panicked as it was the absolute last day of shoot. Van came back on set at 4am to film his last scenes and even stopped to buy drinks for everybody. I was very impressed with his dedication to family and work."

Acting scorecard

As an actor, Vicker's confidence shines through. "He is okay as an actor. I have worked with him twice and I found him quite disciplined," says producer/director Emem Isong. "It's not only about his looks. If he is given a good script with a good director to handle him, I think he can perform a lot better than he is doing now."

Dimoko-Korkus feels the same. "If we are going to compare notes, Van is a damn good actor, better than Emeka Ike and the rest of his ilk. His acting wouldn't make one sit on edge but he's got it going for him at the moment and his looks are an added advantage. I mean, I would prefer a good looking actor that cannot act to one whose big eyes are blocking the screen coupled with the fact that he can't act!"

West African idol

Nigerian fans don't seem bothered by Vicker's nationality. "As for ruling the Nigerian screen, I don't think that is correct. Our people still rule the screen," says Nancy Amara Izuora, who calls herself Vicker's number one fan. "It is not encroachment. I see it as good ‘collabo' and I think we may have a lot more of this between Nigeria and other African countries."

Another fan, Pelumi Oyetimein, thinks it's a non-issue. "He's Ghanaian... just around the corner. Besides, we've had the likes of Jim Iyke and Ramsey Noah ruling the whole African movie industry. Ramsey is also [mixed race] anyway."

Okwo dismisses the question entirely. "I find it extremely unintelligent when people talk about a person's country of origin. If that is so, why should Hollywood open up to all the actors who dream of working there?"

It's win-win for Vicker. "I am still active in Ghollywood," he says. "My Ghanaian fans are very proud of me, and that is where it all started for me, so I will always be active in Ghana. My management is working out a plan to balance my career in Ghollywood and Nollywood."

His star is undoubtedly shining. "Van Vicker is a jolly good fellow and most of his colleagues in Nollywood do not feel threatened by him, especially the A-list that he has supposedly encroached on," Dimoko-Korkus says. "It is just Van's time to rule in Nollywood and no one can do anything about this... it is his time!"

Background
I am John Ikechukwu Okafor. I hail from Ezeokwe-Amurri, in Nkanu West LGA, Enugu State. I attended Community Secondary School, Ezeokwe -Amurri. I proceeded to Sapele Technical College (STC). Afterwards I started struggling for survival since I had lost my father. The issue of going to the university became impossible despite the encouragement from some people of goodwill, that I should seek admission to the university. I ended up running part time studies at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu. I had a tough time at IMT since I was the one training myself. But at the end of the day, I was able to rise from the scratch and by God’s grace, I have reached a certain stage where I can take care of myself.

The road to fame
I never had anything like that in mind, but in whatever I do I always remember what my father taught us - to always believe in God and that we should never lose hope, never give up.

How I started
I had it tough while growing up I used to trek from Ajao Estate to Festac, and from Festac to Iba, town. Because of the suffering I encountered then, I looked so old like my grandfather. It wasn’t easy at all but I had to do it as a sacrifice to become what I am today

Becoming an actor
I started from behind the scene. But each of the productions I worked in, I usually took the role of somebody who may not be present. I liked doing this and after wards it, the producer may decide to add one or two scenes for me and that was how they discovered that I could act very well. I did this up till 1997, when I came into limelight in a film entitled Agony, I played the role of an imbecile in Agony, although it wasn’t easy to interpret it. Yes. my anger usually makes people laugh even when I am very angry. I am always surprised at this. People said when they look at my face, it is the same face they see when I crack jokes, and when I am angry. So I don’t know how to tell people I am angry. Maybe I should start by slapping people.

Nollywood
Hollywood and Bollywood which are being supported by governments of America and India, Nollywood is a child without parents. We are in the wilderness. We are still at the scratch. We are trying to pick from the desert. At the moment, the industry is on its own and that is why pirates are dancing on our sweat. It is unfortunate. We are walking without cloths on our bodies but by the special grace of God, and because of the bundle of talents we have in the industry, I know we shall arrive at our destination.

How to rescue Nollywood
Good packaging is very important. If we have a film village today, and we can’t manage it, then we will blame ourselves. An actor is supposed to be riding a very flashy car. An actor is supposed to be flamboyant. An actor is supposed to be popular such that where ever he goes, the crowd would welcome him. And that is the glamour and the dividends we receive. The government needs to help us by creating a film village with good facilities that can make us produce better movies. In Hollywood and Bollywood, they have structures on the ground. Here we don’t have any structure or facility.

Crisis in Actors’ Guild
Even in the Guild (Actors Guild of Nigeria), we are not so much proud of the people who are leading us. There was a time the Lagos State Government offered us a piece of land but I don’t know if this was followed closely to ensure that we claim the property. Up till this moment, nobody can give accounts of that land. The executives of the guild is even a problem. We are just coming out of the last administration of Ejike Asiegbu and we are trying to install another one. The government of Ejike was characterized by so many problems.

But he should have learnt to leave when the ovation was loudest. Already, he has made a name. He is a hero and a star. During his administration, he got us the first National Headquarters and I give him kudos. I wouldn’t want him to dent his administration by trying to drag what does not belong to him. The Actors Guild is nobody’s property. We are the organizers. We are the followers.
We install whoever is supposed to be there. Zack Orji was once president of our Guild but when he was told to stop, that he was too slow, he stepped aside and, today he has reputation. He can go to any office and talk to anyone in the Actors Guild or in Nollywood. But if you make enemies, you would find it very difficult to talk to anybody. But we are happy another election is being conducted right now. After that, somebody would be installed as president and the Actors Guild would kick off again.

Marital status
I am married. My first son will be 20 years on February 14th 2010. On October 19, 2010, my second son would be 16. My daughter and the last one are between 8 and 6 years old.

Success story
Why not? I am healthy and my name is up in the industry. What is it that God has not done for me? When you look at my humble beginning, he has done a lot for me. I am not hungry but I am not so rich.

Message for aspiring artistes
They should be ready to work hard and sacrifice one or two things.

It was not clear as press time if the family paid any ransom, but a member of the family told Vanguard that Pete and his younger brother, Tony, were still believed to be somewhere at Awka.

Though their mission to the Anambra State capital was not immediately known, there were indications that he was in the custody of the state police command.

However, in an interview with Vanguard, moments after the regained his freedom

How do you feel being taken into captive?

I never thought my life was on the line for a split second. It was not a very pleasant experience in the sense that we were under siege, but again like I said I have lived my life in such a way that I don’t imagine for a split second that God would want my life terminated through violence.

I was not shaken one bit. All the young men know who I am and they cannot count me among those exploiting them, or milking this country, so I was not thinking about family or any other thing and that is the truth.

How did your abduction happen?

I was coming from Onitsha –Ukwu where we had gone to a church to sell a film on Father Iwene Tansi, which is my primary assignment now and we passed through the old road. I don’t know the geography very well, but I think may be after Nkpor [Onitsha] and suddenly this vehicle came and double-crossed us and it is a vehicle that belongs to Anambra State Integrated Development Services [ANDIS] and then there was another vehicle, they over took us and shot their gun into the air and asked all of us to come out of the car and we came out of the vehicle and we were all headed into the van they came with, and they asked my other colleagues to leave and I guess that was where my ordeal started.

Were you maltreated?

Take a good look at me, I wasn’t, like I said, they re garded me as their father and told me out rightly that I would not be hurt. I was not blind folded, I was not hurt, I was not tied. While we were conversing, they sustained my alcoholic passion by giving me some kind of stout. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I was discussing with them like young men of Igbo origin.

There was this report that they demanded for N10 million?

I don’t know who gave you that report because you were not there with us. Who gave you that report because you were not there with us? Sometimes, you people speculate dangerously and sometimes stupidly, and when you do most of these things you endanger the lives of people who are either in jeopardy.
Her father, Tony Okoroji has been a pillar of support. She spoke to Samuel OLATUNJI on ups and down of being an actress.

So many bad things have been written about you. Is it worth it for being a star?
I don't know if it is worth it, but I will say that I am knowledgeable enough to know the kind of industry I am involved in. The industry is a creative industry. You are bound to hear stuff; both the truth and the lie about your person. I mean that is the price you have to pay for being part of the public. I will not lose my sleep over those things.

But I know some actors and actresses who thrive on such scandals.
Well, I will call that cheap publicity. I mean, however you want to write your own scene, however you want to build your own career is your personal business, but it is not the style I like to use. I like to be appreciated for the works that I do, I love what I do and I just don't want to be famous. I usually tell people that I can be famous by just being Tony Okoroji’s daughter.

Do you get upset when you see negative write-ups about you?
Yeah, well I used to. I used to get upset and probably will still get upset. But the truth is, like I said, I am knowledgeable enough to know those things are not true and untrue tales will be told about you. Whether you are a Nollywood, Hollywood, Bollywood actor or actress, I am sure that journalists will write about a lot of people. Even the president, politicians, governors, ministers; things that are not true. Stories would definitely go round because those people are in the public view. So why would I have problem? That is my opinion about it. But you know, I would rather beg people to know the truth about the story that they write about others. They should ask questions and find out through their research. I will really appreciate that, not just for me, but also for others.

Why is it that you have not done some big movies?
Hmmm, I won’t agree that I have not done huge budget movies that are on peoples’ face, I will just say that I have not saturated the TV screen. For example, I have shot quite a number of films that are not yet released and I am sure that when they are released, people would be wondering, ‘when did she shoot this?’ Right now, I have programme showing everyday of the week on different television stations, I’m showing on MNET, I’m also on African Magic, Mondays through Friday every day at 5pm, I’m showing on AIT, in a soap opera, ‘Spider’ and it is shown on Fridays and on Saturdays, so how much more can I do? I am not going to do any how movie because I want to be seen. I am not looking for cheap publicity and if you look at those things that I have done, you will see that they are good works. I am not trying to do movies for the sake of doing movies. The truth is that I have a family name to protect, so I need to do the kind of movie that people will appreciate. Those are the kind of works I have been involved in.
